Dr. Christiane Weissenbacher-Lang
Veterinärmedizinische Universität Wien
Due to a massive myelitis in the year 2000, I have to use a wheel-chair. At that time, I was studying veterinary medicine and I only was able to finish my studies because of the great support of the university’s staff. From 2003 to 2011 I worked at the University Clinic for Swine. Since September 2011 I have been working as a scientific assistant at the Institute of Pathology and Forensic Veterinary Medicine and I am more than happy with this job.
Already during my time at the University Clinic for Swine I was asked whether I was interested in the position of a representative of disabled people. My handicap was still very recent and I was worried of not being up to the task. During the following years, I started working voluntarily and I had the experience that help lines and contact points are a very important institution for disabled people. For this reason, I became BVP and this activity makes my job at the University of Veterinary Medicine even more attractive.
